After returning from an extended stay in Europe in 2009, we decided to plant our own vineyard, mainly as a hobby. After the first year and first 100 vines were planted, we made the ultimate decision to expand our vineyard and begin the process of building a tasting room. During our time in Europe we fell in love with the Riesling and Ice wines in Germany and the sheer beauty of the countryside and architecture of Tuscany, Italy. The combination of these two aspects is what Dorner Family Vineyard is based upon. The vineyard is now comprised of 500 Zinfandel and Riesling grapevines. In spring 2014 we were approved to be the first winery in Tehachapi and second in Kern County. In June 2014 our 2013 Riesling took a silver medal at the International Wine Competition in Virginia. In May 2015 our 2014 Riesling took a Gold Medal at the International Wine Competition in Portland, Oregon. Our 2013 Zinfandel and our 2014 Sauvignon Blanc each took a Bronze Medal. Groundbreaking for the Tasting Room and Winery as well as four, 1-bedroom rental cottages is due to begin Summer 2015. Construction is anticipated to take 18 months.
Thank you for your interest in our winery and tasting room. Although we are not open yet we can recommend a fantastic tasting room across the valley from us: Souza Family Vineyard. Bob and Patty Souza have won several medals for their outstand wines and their tasting room continues to be a favorite destination here in Cumming’s Valley.
